Most main currencies can be exchanged in Iranian banks or in the private exchange offices called “Saraafi” in Iran. The currencies exchangeable at most banks are Euros (EUR), British Pounds (GBP), US dollars (USD),  Japan yen (JPY), Swiss Franc (CHF), Canadian dollars (CAD), UAE Dirhams and Saudi Rials. Even some other currencies like Australian dollars are frequently exchanged by Exchange offices. The best is to carry some USD because they are exchangeable in all banks and exchange offices. Never exchange money with guys who approach you in touristy areas. You may be cheated or overcharged. Furthermore, it is illegal. Exchange offices or banks branches can be easily found in down areas in every city.
